My favorite part about the weekend is having the time to make breakfast… sleeping in too, of course, but BREAKFAST… I will never ever say no to breakfast.
I tried this “egg-in-a-hole” a couple months ago in an attempt to be creative, and it has easily become my breakfast/brunch go-to. It’s absolutely delicious, super easy to make and goes well with potatoes, fruit, or all by itself!
What you’ll need (per slice):
- a non-stick pan
- a slice of bread (whatever your preference)
- a cookie cutter
- an egg
- butter or margarine
- cheese (whatever your preference, I’m going with mozzarella)
- salt and pepper
Start off by heating the pan over medium heat. You want to make sure it’s hot by the time you’re ready to cook! Now, prep your slice(s). Use the cookie cutter to cut out the middles of your bread. You’re more than welcome to use a cup… that’s what I do!
Next, melt some butter in the pan. I use a little over a teaspoon for three slices, but adjust to your liking. Move the butter around, so it coats the pan well. Once the butter has melted, add your slice(s). When you choose to add the egg is dependent on how runny you want it. I add the egg almost immediately so it has time to cook through as the bread toasts, but feel free to experiment!
Give the bread a few minutes to get nice and golden. When it has reached your desired level of toastiness, flip over and add a bit more butter.
This is when you want to add the cheese (yummm!). Once the bottom is golden, serve immediately and sprinkle on some salt and pepper. Add avocado for additional enjoyment. Enjoy!
